SUMMARY:Creamery Tour and Tasting with a Cheesemaker
DESCRIPTION:About the EventSpring Brook Farm Cheese invites you for a guided tour of their creamery and aging room! Hosted by one of their cheese makers\, this is an intimate look behind the scenes to learn about how Alpine style cheeses are made and aged. And of course\, there will be a cheese tasting! \nGet TicketsAbout the MakerCheese Council Insider Note: Spring Brook Farm’s three cheeses are truly award winning\, with 75+ awards between them (!) \nMake a Day of It: Spring Brook Farm is… \n\n20 minutes from Billings Farm & Museum in the Woodstock area\n30 minutes from the historic Plymouth Cheese Factory in Plymouth (and Calvin Coolidge Historical Site!)\n30 minutes from Harpoon Brewery and Simon Pearce Glassblowing in Windsor\nA hop\, skip\, and a jump from the self-serve farm stands of Fat Sheep Farm or Good Hands Creamery\n\nTell Us About the Cheese!: Spring Brook has been making cheese since 2007\, when we made our first batch of Tarentaise\, an alpine-style cheese\, using cheesemaking methods that are traditional to the Beaufort Region of France. \nIn the following years\, we developed Reading\, our raclette-style cheese\, and Ashbrook\, our ode to the French Morbier. We knew from the beginning that the key to making great cheese was great milk. Most of our milk comes from Spring Brook Farm\, a traditional dairy farm that covers 1\,000 acres and maintains a herd of 100 registered Jerseys. Spring Brook Farm is an educational farm\, home to the Farms for City Kids Foundation\, and the cows are closely monitored\, loved and cared for. We also partner with other small family dairy farm in our region. \nMission Statement: Our purpose is to build and support a community that embraces the land that sustains us\, from our unique microbial environment to the Jersey cows that provide the highest quality milk to produce some of the most delicious\, award-winning raw milk cheeses in America. Understanding that with each cheese we make\, we carry the reputation of raw milk cheeses and Vermont cheeses with them. Our goal is to continue to produce safe\, complex French alpine styles of cheeses. We strive to fulfill this responsibility with authenticity and transparency\, and to continue to support the small scale Vermont dairy. \nGet TIckets

SUMMARY:Meet a Cheesemaker at Woodstock Farmers Market
DESCRIPTION:The Woodstock Farmers Market is proud to host some of our closest local cheese makers to sample their cheeses this fall to help us celebrate Vermont Cheese Week: \nPlymouth Artisan Cheese – (Plymouth\,\, VT) – Plymouth Artisan Cheese is a family-run business from Jesse and Sarit Werner\, who still make their cheese from the 1890 Vermont recipe today. Their raw-milk cheese single-sourced from a dedicated herd of Holstein and Jersey cows. When each block of cheddar is ready\, it is dipped in hot wax which is the way Plymouth Cheese has been packaged for 130 years. Their cheese include both traditional cheddars\, as well as newer flavors like black truffle\, harissa\, and hot pepper! \nCobb Hill Cheese – (Hartland\, VT) – Cobb Hill has been handcrafting artisan cheeses since 2000\, including an award-winning Ascutney Mountain Cheese\, a smoked farmhouse Gouda\, a caraway-infused Alphine\, and more. Their milk comes from Cedar Mountain Farm’s jersey cows\, which impart a delicious\, nutty flavor\, and like many Vermont makers\, they follow the age-old process of hand-stirring the curd\, hooping\, and pressing the cheese. \nThis event will be held outside in front of our Woodstock location in beautiful Vermont weather! (If the weather is not-so-friendly\, inside space will be considered.) \nFor more information\, contact: courtney.p@woodstockfarmersmarket.com or 1-802-457-3658\, ext 1. \nPro-Tips and Don’t Misses!: The small Woodstock / Windsor / Plymouth triangle has a high concentration of cheesemakers in a small area — check our our Cheese Trail Map for farmstands\, farmstays\, and more in the area. \nHistoric Makers: Vermont cheesemakers have been at this a long time. In addition to Plymouth Artisan Cheese\, Southwest Vermont also boasts many other century-old cheese sites and identities\, including Billings Farm & Museum (1869)\, Crowley Cheese Company (1824)\, and Grafton Village Cheese (1892).
